Schwanke-Kasten Discusses Topaz

Unknown to many people, topaz is often found colorless and they’re found as large crystals that can weigh in the tons.  Colors that are available in topaz can include green, yellow, honey-yellow, yellow-brown, blue, light blue, brown, peach, salmon, pink, champagne, and red.  Topaz is also pleochroic which means it can display different colors in different directions.

Topaz are typically referred to by their hue (white topaz, blue topaz etc.), but there are also other special names to describe topaz. Sherry topaz is a topaz that is either yellowish brown or brownish yellow to orange.  Imperial topaz appears as orange to orange-red or medium reddish orange.

Blue topaz is often colorless topaz created through radiation and heating.  It is the most common color found in jewelry.  Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers has a number of blue and white topaz pieces currently available.  Explore our Schwanke-Kasten website to view our topaz offerings.
